Munich, a cosmopolitan city full of heart

Munich is full of heart. This is particularly noticeable in the famous Marienplatz square and in the nearby Hofbräuhaus, where people from all over the world meet and chat over a beer. After an extended stroll down the opulent Maximiliansstraße, past the opera house and numerous famous theaters, such as the Residence Theater and the Kammerspiele, the easiest way to travel to the royal parklands at the English Garden and Nymphenburg Palace, which was modeled on Versailles, is by car.

In autumn, the city hosts the world-famous Oktoberfest — known in local dialect as "Wies'n". It takes place every year on the Theresienwiese, in commemoration of the royal wedding in 1810. The city even brews its own beers, and enjoys two weeks of high spirits with an international flair.

Munich is also magnificent in winter, with the numerous romantic Christmas markets, traditionally known here as "Christkindlmärkte".

In the Olympic Park, built to host the 1972 Olympics, you can let off steam at the numerous sports facilities or enjoy the view over the city to the Alps from the Olympic Tower during an exclusive sunset dinner.

Talking of the Alps — with a rental car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car Munich, you will be at the foot of the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze, in about an hour.

Or you can drive on to one of Bavaria’s numerous royal castles — the most famous of which is, of course, Neuschwanstein, a true fairytale castle.

If you like to walk the paths of history, follow the fairy-tale king Ludwig II. on his final journey to Lake Starnberg. He died there under mysterious circumstances in 1886. Lake Starnberg is a beautiful lake for swimming and water sports enthusiasts and is less than half an hour away by car from Munich.

Driving in Munich

The city of Munich has a grand total of 24 car parks. There really is an ideal spot for every driver.

Visitors to the trade fair or the Oktoberfest can use the free or very inexpensive Park + Ride parking spaces at public transport stations.

You can quickly travel south from Munich via the A8, i.e. toward the mountains and lakes. To the north, you can take the A9, for example, toward the airport and visit northern Bavaria, such as Ingolstadt, home to car manufacturer Audi.

The area within Munich’s Mittlerer Ring ring road is a low-emission zone. The modern, environmentally friendly fleet of our Munich branches is, of course, allowed to drive through it without restrictions.

Further information about traffic in Munich can be found on the city's website.
