Car and Van Rental in Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of the Spanish Balearic Islands, which also include Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. July and August are the hottest months, but the temperature in spring and early autumn is dry and pleasant, making it perfect for hiking and sightseeing. The island extends approximately 80 kilometers from one end to the other, but boasts 550 kilometers of coastline formed by rocky coves with sandy beaches and limestone cliffs.

Rent a vehicle to explore the picturesque hillside villages, secluded beaches and breathtaking panoramic views of the rugged, spectacular western peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Serra de Tramuntana. Enterprise Rent-A-Car's office enjoys an excellent location at Mallorca International Airport, so you can pick up your rental vehicle directly on arrival.

With easy access to the arrivals terminal and parking lot, staff at Enterprise's rental office will be happy to serve passengers arriving on domestic and international flights.

Discover Mallorca

Before heading out to explore the island, it's worth spending some time exploring Palma de Mallorca. Be sure to enjoy the atmosphere of the old town with its narrow streets, the Gothic cathedral of Santa María dominating the horizon, the unusual circular castle of Bellver to the west of the city center and the 11th-century Arab baths.

Leave the center and head to some of the best beaches the Mediterranean has to offer — perfect for water sports or just sunbathing. For fabulous views, take the road to the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along the entire west side of the island, stopping at the beautiful villages that can be found along the way. These include Sóller, with its famous orange tram that connects the town to the port, Fornalutx, considered by many to be the most beautiful village in Spain and, on the south-west end of the island, Puerto de Andratx with its glamorous yachts and luxury stores.

Mallorca for Families

The island has two water parks, both a 20-minute drive from Palma. Aqualand El Arenal and Western Water Park offer a variety of water slides, wave pools and other activities for all age groups. The Palma Aquarium, home to more than 8000 marine animals, allows you to enjoy a fun and educational day in which kids can discover different varieties of marine animals and their habitats.

Kids will love the 30-minute tram from Sóller, which takes you through the historic streets of Sóller to the coast, where you'll find a sandy beach and plenty of restaurants around the marina. On the other side of the island you can visit the spectacular Drach Caves and Arta Caves. Small children may need to be carried, as excursions involve walking and climbing stairs, but the stunning stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes are well worth seeing.

Mallorca even has its own theme park, the popular Katmandu Park in Magaluf, an ideal haven for children of all ages with a variety of attractions, swings and shows.

The Best Beaches in Mallorca

Cala Llamp and Cala Marmassen are located on the southwest coast, between the sea and the cliffs. These coves are mostly rocky, so they are not ideal for families, but the water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling and other water sports.

If you're looking for something more kid-friendly, with golden sands and shallow waters surrounded by nature, have a picnic and head to Cala S'Amarador on the southeast coast of the Mondrago Nature Park. Alternatively, head northeast to Cala Torta or Playa de S'Arenalet to find beaches that are off the beaten track, less crowded and therefore perfect for families.

For those interested in the "beach clubs," the sun loungers, the gastronomic delights and drinks on-tap, the bay of Alcúdia and its many beaches on the north coast are the perfect place.

Driving Through Mallorca

  • Priority rules: As a general rule, you must give way to vehicles on your right at intersections. On roundabouts, vehicles already on the roundabout have priority.
  • Speed limits are slightly lower than elsewhere, so pay attention to signage.
  • Wearing a seat belt is mandatory in both the front and rear seats.
  • Children less than 135 cm tall must use a booster seat or an approved restraint system. If you need one of these restraint systems, you can reserve and pay for a child safety seat when you reserve your rental vehicle.
  • Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited unless a hands-free system is available.

Parking

If you park in an area with discontinuous blue or green lines, you should pick up a parking ticket from a machine. The color green generally indicates spaces for residents, but these spaces can be used by visitors as long as the corresponding fee is paid and the ticket is placed on the windshield. Parking is usually free on Sundays and public holidays, but we recommend that you check the timetable on the machine, as this can vary by city and area.
